Montréal

Lazy day today. Went to bed early, so I was up at 4:30am. Had some coffee, watched some YouTube, then went back to bed.

Brekkie at 6:30, then went back to bed again. Haven’t done that in ages.

Just before lunchtime, we headed out into the neighbourhood to enjoy the absolutely gorgeous weather. We first stopped at a little coffee shop.

From there, we set off to find a liquor store to see if we could score any of the absinthes I had last night. The store didn’t open until noon, so we spent a half hour wandering up and down the ‘tacky souvenir store street’

The Cathedral Notre Dame was right here as well, undergoing a facelift.

This cathedral, like the one I saw yesterday, was across the street from a big bank. In this case, the BMO headquarters.

We found Underground Montréal, but the section we were in didn’t really have anything worth seeing and a lot of it was under construction. Maybe we’ll seek out more of it tomorrow.

We found a cute restaurant for lunch/dinner called Benny & Co. Rob had a chicken club sammich and I had a half-rack of ribs with a chicken leg. Was delicious and we brought some home for dinner.

After that, we went back to the hotel for happy hour (each guest gets two drinks per day) and then we headed back to Sara B Bar Absinthe. I had two that I hadn’t tried yet a rouge and a vert from the same distillery. I’m not usually a fan of rouge absinthe (it has hibiscus in it), but this one wasn’t half bad.

Maybe that’s because the amount of hibiscus was so slight, there was barely a pink tint to it at all.
Tried the vert (green) version after that. It was fine, but nothing to get excited about. Certainly not worth the price they were asking at the liquor store!

I asked the waiter how to find the Balzac brand that I had yesterday and he showed me a list of places it was available. Absolutely going to seek out some of that tomorrow. I finished off the evening with another glass of the Balzac. It’s really complex and challenging- and very, very bitter. I might try it with the sugar cube drip someday, but as of today, I love the bitter. Good stuff!

There’s a building across the street with coloured panels that throw rainbow hues onto the street and sidewalks. Fun!

That’s it for today. Tomorrow will be more interesting, promise!
